By: MArk Snyder (freep.com) — Though Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller is only a freshman, Michigan coach Brady Hoke already respects his talent.
“He, obviously, presents a lot of problems because of being a dual-threat quarterback,” Hoke said during today’s Big Ten teleconference. “How well he is with the ball in his hands, he drops back and runs it or runs the draw scheme or speed option or whatever decision his instinct helps him make. He’s difficult to defend, and I think he’s got a tremendous arm. The arm strength and the verticalness of their pass game is something that he throws the ball very well.”
Hoke said facing a third straight dual-threat quarterback, after Illinois’ Nathan Scheelhaase and Nebraska’s Taylor Martinez, isn’t necessarily a major advantage in preparing for Miller this week.
“Each game is different — the mentality of how you get ready each week — and that’s got to start Sunday night and Monday in how you want to play them,” Hoke said. “When you have guys who are gifted like that, they’re going to make some plays, they’re going to do some things. It’s more … you want to play team defense.”
