2006 Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith dissects the 2008 candidates for the Heisman and fills you in on who he will be voting for and why.
Smith overcame Darren McFadden and Brady Quinn in 2006 to win yet another Heisman Trophy for the Ohio State University. Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow are all finalists for the Heisman Trophy in 2008 and here is what Troy Smith had to say about each candidate:
“Sam Bradford is an incredible quarterback and what he is doing for his team this year is exactly what an elite quarterback needs to do. He is saying all the right things and is being a leader. He has been performing at a high level when they win games and when they don’t win them. “
“Colt McCoy is a great player. I got a chance to play against Colt McCoy when he was younger. He didn’t really come of age until now and I was kind of the same way. It took me some time to learn the game fully and Colt seems to be the same as me. Those years as a youngster have turned McCoy into an incredible dual threat quarterback. “
“I got a chance to see Tim Tebow when he was a bit younger as well. They whooped us real good in the National Championship game and he played a pivotal role in that team winning games that season. He and Chris Leak did tremendous things for the University of Florida and Tim is still doing incredible things now. He is part of an elite class already along with myself and who is to say that you won’t see another two-time winner this year to join Archie Griffin.”
So who is Mr. Smith giving his vote to this year?
“This year with my vote I am eligible to cast as a former Heisman winner, I am leaning towards Sam Bradford. From the beginning of the season until now, he has been the marquee guy. Oklahoma has only suffered one defeat this year and in that defeat, Bradford was in top form. I got a tremendous amount of respect for Bradford and I understand what it takes to be a college quarterback and what he is doing this year is tremendous.”
This is not the first time Smith has had the opportunity to cast a vote in deciding the recipient for one of the most respected and well know athletic awards given each year in America:
“I did not vote for Tim Tebow last year in case you were wondering. I put my vote towards Dennis Dixon, the quarterback from Oregon.”
Troy Smith summed up his Heisman experience:
“Looking back on my time in New York, it was a surreal Buy Acomplia pills time. My whole family experienced, along with myself, New York for the first time and it was just a great moment in my life. After winning the Heisman you are placed into an elite group of guys.”
Whether the Heisman winner this year is McCoy, Bradford or Tebow, one thing is for certain, they all are very deserving candidates and it just might come down to the one vote that Smith will cast.
