As we hit the home stretch of the college basketball season, there are several front-runners for the national player-of-the-year award.
One is Kentucky’s John Wall. The freshman has played huge since Day One for John Calipari’s Wildcats, including a game-saving block against Vanderbilt over the weekend that kept Kentucky atop the SEC and ranked No. 2 in the country. Wall leads the Wildcats in scoring with 16.8 points a game.
There’s also Wesley Johnson. The Syracuse junior is averaging 16 points a game for the Orange, who have climbed to No. 4 in the coaches’ poll and lead the Big East standings. He nearly averages a double-double the year after sitting on the bench following his transfer from Iowa State.
And then there’s Evan Turner. The Ohio State junior, who missed six games at the start of conference play with a back injury, has returned to ignite the Buckeyes with his all-around game. He, too, nearly averages a double-double and has tallied two triple-doubles this season…….
