By: Matt Markey (ToledoBlade.com) –COLUMBUS — Trailing by a point with 36 seconds to play, the visitors went for two and the win. To the surprise of absolutely no one, they didn’t run the ball up the middle or try a predictable play they had already used a dozen times earlier that cold November day along the shore of Lake Michigan.

Urban Meyer called a reverse and had his tight-end-sized quarterback Josh Harris fake a handoff inside and give the ball to split end Cole Magner, a gifted athlete from Alaska who could best be described as the Percy Harvin of the Great North.

Magner swept around the corner and got to the end zone before Northwestern figured out what the play was, and Meyer’s Bowling Green team won 43-42. That was more than 10 years ago.

With that as just one frame in a decade-sized backdrop, Meyer gives Ohio State fans cause to believe their offense will be much more creative now that a preacher of the spread is delivering the sermons.

Initially, it might not be Extreme Makeover: Buckeyes Edition, but Meyer’s arrival essentially guarantees change. For those Ohio State fans that clutch their chest and tell their wives they feel the Big One coming on after seeing the 17th off-tackle run of the first half, relief is likely on the way……..
