INDIANAPOLIS — Ohio State destroyed Minnesota, 90-61, on Sunday afternoon to win the Big Ten Tournament with a second-half surge, the Buckeyes playing one of their best halves of the season after two tight wins to start the tournament.
After winning the third conference tournament title in the 13-year history of the event, the first Big Ten school to win three, the Buckeyes were given a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will play their first-round game on Friday in Milwaukee against No. 15 seed UC-Santa Barbara.
Ohio State is part of the Midwest Region, which will be held in St. Louis on the second weekend of the tournament. The other top seeds in the South are No. 1 Kansas, No. 3 Georgetown, No. 4 Maryland, No. 5 Michigan State and No. 7 Tennessee.
With a victory on Friday, the Buckeyes would play the winner of No. 7 Oklahoma State and No. 10 Georgia Tech on Sunday.
This is a tough draw for Ohio State, forced to go through the overall No. 1 seed, Kansas, on the way to the Final Four, unless the Jayhawks are upset along the way. No. 3 seed Georgetown also looms as a potentially very tough Sweet 16 matchup for the Buckeyes.
