Ohio State should have eight or nine players drafted over the next two days. A final look at the draft possibilities of OSU players today and Sunday:
* Malcolm Jenkins, CB/S: The most likely Buckeye off the board first, he could go as high as No. 9 to Green Bay and doesn’t look like he’ll get past New Orleans at No. 14 or Houston at No. 15. Guess: No. 14 to New Orleans
* Beanie Wells, RB: There are some who see him falling out of the first round, or at least dropping to Arizona at No. 31. I just can’t believe that. Guess: No. 16 to San Diego
* James Laurinaitis, LB: Another player who looked like a first-round choice but now is getting a lot of talk as falling to the second round. And I don’t believe that either. If he does go in the second round, the first pick of the second round to Detroit may be the place. But I like him in the 20s. Guess: No. 24 to Atlanta
* Brian Robiskie, WR: He’s been moving up the draft charts since the season ended, starting with a great performance at the Senior Bowl. Really does have a shot at the first round, to a team like Indianapolis or the New York Giants. But in the end that may be a little high: Guess: No. 35 overall, third pick in second round to St. Louis
* Donald Washington, CB: His full package of athletic skills will lead him to go higher than OSU fans may have thought when he declared for the draft after his junior season. If he had never been suspended for violating team rules and had stayed for his senior season, he very well could have made himself a first-round pick. As it is, teams have seen enough to want him. Guess: Early third round
* Marcus Freeman, LB: Played hurt as a senior, but showed enough on film as a junior and put up some good workout numbers. Still, I think he’ll go lower than Washington, who might have a higher ceiling and plays a position that’s at more of a premium in the NFL. Guess: Mid-third to mid-fourth
* Alex Boone, OT: Might wind up at right tackle in the NFL after playing left tackle at Ohio State. But he certainly offers an NFL body, and if teams can believe that his off-field incidents with alcohol are behind him, I think they’ll believe a productive and long pro career is possible. At his best, Boone is clearly capable of starting in the NFL. Guess: Fifth round
* Brian Hartline, WR: Somebody is going to like him enough as a slot receiver, with drugs without prescription good size and quickness, to go out and grab him. And if there’s one team out there that he has really impressed, he’s another guy who could go a round or two higher than expected. But there’s little doubt he’ll be drafted. Guess: Sixth round
Other possibilities: DT Nader Abdallah and QB Todd Boeckman should get looks, but my guess is they’ll slide through the draft and end up as priority free agents. If there’s a ninth Buckeye drafted, Abdallah has the best shot.
