By: Doug Lesmerises (Cleveland Plain Dealer) — Ohio State incoming freshman running back Jaamal Berry had a drug charge in Florida reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor in court today, which should bode well for his future as a Buckeye.

Berry was arrested on June 11 in Miami and charged with possession of marijuana. The amount alleged to be in Berry’s possessions, 28 grams, led to the felony charge before it was reduced. According to the Miami Herald, neither Berry nor his attorney appeared in court when called today, and the matter was immediately referred to a court that handles more minor infractions.

According to the standards of conduct policy for the athletic department, players can’t play in games while a felony charge is pending. However, the punishment for misdemeanors is left to the discretion of coaches.

Berry did report with the other incoming freshman for the start of summer classes on June 22. He could challenge Dan Herron, Brandon Saine and fellow freshman Carlos Hyde for playing time in the fall as the Buckeyes look to replace Beanie Wells.
