Columbus — There have been years when Ohio State grabbed the headlines at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, the top all-star game in the country for high school football players.

Ted Ginn Jr. won the game’s MVP as a future Buckeye in 2004, Beanie Wells did the same in 2006 and Terrelle Pryor, while not yet pledged to OSU, won the award in 2008 and pointed to a Buckeye leaf on his helmet during the telecast, sending the hearts of OSU fans aflutter. Even last season, the Buckeyes were still in the running for Virginia quarterback Tajh Boyd when he shared MVP honors, though he later chose Clemson over Ohio State.

The Buckeyes might not be so prevalent today, when the game kicks off at 1 p.m. on WKYC Ch. 3. Just how much attention they get will depend a lot on Glenville’s Latwan Anderson. Anderson plans to announce order drugs online his college pick during the game, according to Glenville assistant coach Tony Overton, who is in San Antonio.

With less than a month until National Signing Day, Ohio State has 16 oral commitments for the Class of 2010. OSU coach Jim Tressel said before the Rose Bowl that the Buckeyes were shooting for a class of 20 players, though with some recent transfers they could maybe go to 21 or 22.

Cincinnati offensive tackle Andrew Norwell is the only player in San Antonio who already has given an oral commitment to OSU, but he’ll only be watching the game because of a broken leg suffered during the season.

Players on the field still in the mix for the Buckeyes include defensive backs Anderson and Christian Bryant of Glenville, Cincinnati offensive tackle Matt James, Philadelphia defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd and Minnesota offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson, considered by most recruiting analysts to be the No. 1 prospect in the country.

Bryant, James and Henderson have all said they’ll make their choices later, but Floyd also plans to announce his college during the game, and he could make OSU’s day. Ranked as the No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 9 overall recruit in the nation by Rivals.com, Floyd wrote in a diary for SI.com that he’ll pick either Florida, Ohio State, North Carolina or South Carolina.

Anderson will choose between Ohio State, West Virginia, Miami, Michigan State and North Carolina, with the Buckeyes and Mountaineers believed to be the schools with the best chance to land him.

One other major player Ohio State is still chasing is Cincinnati-area linebacker Jordan Hicks of Lakota West. He already played in the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando and is deciding between Ohio State, Texas and Florida.

According to BuckeyeGrove.com, Hicks, the No. 2-rated linebacker in this class, planned to entertain members of each coaching staff in recent days.

But the focus for today is in San Antonio. Anderson is one of five players on the East squad up for the Doc Blanchard award, which recognizes one player for a mix of athletics, education and community service. And Ginn Jr. will serve as the honorary captain for the East today.

If Anderson and Floyd both announce that they are headed to Columbus, Ohio State will once again come out as a winner in San Antonio. Grabbing one of the two would still be a good day. If the Buckeyes get neither, at least Ginn Jr. might help conjure up some fond memories.
