Walking through the local mall here in the Columbus suburbs today and I saw the new Ohio State jerseys for the first time.
Each year, there are five or six numbers put out before the season, representing the best guess at the Buckeyes the fans are most interested in. Last year, it was Beanie Wells (28), James Laurinaitis (33), Malcolm Jenkins (2), Brian Robiskie (80), Todd Boeckman (17) and Marcus Freeman (1).

You are not going to hear names like Brian Robiskie, Brian Hartline, Teddy Ginn or Anthony Gonzalez. For the first time in quite a few years the Ohio State Buckeyes will be starting the season without a legitimate star at wide receiver.
The Buckeyes have always had great receivers names like Carter, Glenn, Galloway, Boston, Jenkins, Germany, Gamble, Holmes, and the before mentioned Ted Ginn Jr. and Anthony Gonzalez.

With the great senior class departing to the NFL, one might be quick to say that the Buckeyes don't have enough to replace their holes.
Another look plus considering past history shows that they will be just fine in 2009.
Gone are the Brians: Robiskie and Hartline, along with James Laurinaitis and Marcus Freeman among other talented players.
Conventional wisdom tells us that Ohio State will reload as they always have in the Tressel era.
Buckeye fans might not also be used ... Read More

One of the themes of the last couple weeks is contenders, and what makes (or breaks) a team's shot at No. 1, and as I indicated in premature assessment of Ohio State, OSU -- a ubiquitous contender the last four years -- looks like a definite "break." This has much less to do with the Buckeyes' recent failures in their biggest games (though they've become too obvious for even an OSU defender to overlook) than with the much ... Read More

Brian Hartline and Brian Robiskie signed autographs for fans at the Eastwood Mall in Niles.
NILES — Brian Hartline and Brian Robiskie have made a career out of catching a football.
Now, the former Ohio State Buckeye wide receivers hope to catch on in the NFL.
Both were selected in last month’s NFL Draft. Robiskie was selected in the second round by the Cleveland Browns. Hartline was the fourth-round pick of the Miami Dolphins.
The rookie receivers participated in an autograph signing ... Read More

There may be more Ohio State football players in the NFL as rookies this season than just the seven who were drafted.
Three have already signed as free agents: punter A.J. Trapasso with the Titans, offensive lineman Alex Boone with the 49ers and defensive lineman Nader Abdallah with the Jaguars.
There are others getting free-agent shots at the pros: tight end Rory Nicol (Redskins), fullback Brandon Smith (Bears) and offensive linemen Ben Person (Lions) and Steve Rehring (Bengals)
But of all ... Read More

When Terrelle Pryor committed to Ohio State last year, big things immediately were expected from the dual-threat quarterback from Pennsylvania. It didn't take long for him to become the Buckeyes' starter. He ran for 631 yards and threw for 1,311 while completing 60.6 percent of his pass attempts. Despite that success, concern lingers: Can a running quarterback be successful throwing the ball? He answered that question in OSU's spring game, completing 13 of 18 passes for 191 ... Read More

BEREA —
It’s hardly as if Ohio is all Brian Robiskie ever knew.
He lived his first seven years outside Los Angeles; the next seven outside Washington.
But the rest is all Ohio. How far does that get him now that he’s making the transition from the Ohio State Buckeyes to the Cleveland Browns?
He barely knows Brady Quinn, the Ohio-bred Browns quarterback.
“I’ve met him,” Robiskie said. “I’ve talked to him a couple times over the phone. That was it.”
The Browns ... Read More

BEREA - Like it or not, receivers Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi will have to become friends.
Although they will compete for playing time next season for the Browns as second-round draft choices, both should get on the field for an offense that was woefully weak in depth at the position prior to the draft. The better they co-exist, the better the chance of offensive success in the 2009 season.

Just how will The Ohio State Buckeyes fill their holes on Offense?
With the likes of Chris "Beanie" Wells, Brian Robiskie, and Brian Hartline all off to the NFL. What ever will they do?
The Ohio State Buckeye fans every couple of years find themselves asking that same question. The Buckeyes always find talent, sometimes the talent is a new recruit that can step in and fill the hole or it is a guy like Austin Spitler who has ... Read More

Now that spring practice is complete, I'll have five thoughts on each Ohio State position group this week: offensive line, receivers, running backs, quarterbacks, defensive line, linebackers and defensive backs.
Let's start with the receivers.
Ohio State receivers
Thought No. 1
Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline will be more difficult to replace than you might think.
One thing we know by now is that Ohio State produces NFL quality receivers on a regular basis. In the last six years, eight ... Read More

For the last several months, I've been pondering a story, trying to figure out the best way to go about it while bouncing the premise off other people who follow Ohio State. And it went something like this:
Why I think Ohio State might lose four games next season.
This was my thinking.
There are eight starters back on defense, but the three guys who led the way there are gone. The offensive line was a giant question ... Read More

Ohio State should have eight or nine players drafted over the next two days. A final look at the draft possibilities of OSU players today and Sunday:
* Malcolm Jenkins, CB/S: The most likely Buckeye off the board first, he could go as high as No. 9 to Green Bay and doesn't look like he'll get past New Orleans at No. 14 or Houston at No. 15. Guess: No. 14 to New Orleans
* Beanie Wells, ... Read More
