Ohio State may be a consensus top-10 team in the national polls, but don’t look for Terrelle Pryor and Co. to be there by the end of the season. I believe they’ll be held back by a problem that’s plagued the program throughout the Jim Tressel years: poor offensive line play.
I’m trying to think of the last time the OSU line actually mashed an opposing defensive front — something I recall being relatively common in the 1990s. The ... Read More

COLUMBUS —
Boom and Zoom, that’s how Head Coach Jim Tressel started referring to them. Ohio State’s offense last year had more Boom and far less Zoom, but Brandon Saine is hoping to find his way in the Buckeye backfield more this season.
The 6-foot-1, 217-pound junior from Piqua came to Ohio State with the same kind of hype as most incoming freshmen running backs do in Columbus. His nickname is “Zoom.” Dan Herron is called “Boom.” One runs fast; ... Read More

Entering his sophomore year at Ohio State, Terrelle Pryor is now the big man on campus. Lofty expectations hide in every corner and talks of a return to a New Year’s Day bowl game are everywhere.
Currently, coaches, media, and national television talking heads are in an uproar about whether Terrelle Pryor could really have run a 4.33 40-yard dash. This is a pretty impressive number, considering that only receivers Ray Small, DeVier Posey and running back and former ... Read More

By: Mike Castiglione (SeattlePI.com) -- Ohio State continued its dominance of the Big Ten in 2008, capturing a fourth straight league title and solidifying its stance as one of the elite football programs in the nation.
All things considered, it was quite an accomplishment when you consider the Buckeyes' embarrassing 35-3 loss to USC in the third week of the season. While many pundits wrote OSU off following that showing, the Buckeyes knew they were a better football ... Read More

One of the most hyped up games of the upcoming college football season is now just less than a month away.
Yes, football fans, grab those foam fingers, wash that jersey, and fill that fridge with cold ones, because Ohio State and USC are meeting at "The 'Shoe" on September 12th.
While many prognosticators see the Trojans rolling through Columbus with reckless abandon, this writer sees it a little differently - and there are a few reasons why Ohio State ... Read More

Duron Carter came to camp with high expectations. The freshman receiver from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., is the son of former Buckeye great Cris Carter, who ranks No. 2 on Ohio State's all-time career receptions list with 168.
The younger Carter made an impressive grab over the middle on Tuesday, giving Tressel flashbacks of his father, whom Tressel had when he was the receivers coach with the Buckeyes.
"Cris' first practice here at Ohio State, ... Read More

When Chris Wells announced in January 2009 that he was leaving Columbus for the NFL, most Buckeye fans anointed sophomore Dan Herron as the starter and the heir apparent to the great tradition of running backs at Ohio State.
Apparently the directors of the Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum feel the same, as they announced Sunday afternoon their candidates for the 2009 Doak Walker Award. Herron is listed as a candidate for the award which is presented ... Read More

Breaking down the best 20 Ohio State players on the roster right now as the Buckeyes prepare to report for preseason camp on Sunday.
No. 9: Sophomore running back Dan Herron
I've been getting the feeling that some Ohio State fans are almost glad to see Beanie Wells in the NFL, especially after Wells injured his ankle in practice. That brought up Wells' injury history at Ohio State and the idea held by some, even if it's a ... Read More

When a reference such as “the chosen one” is made, Ohio sports fans immediately start looking for Lebron James. In 2007, many high school football talent evaluators spoke in the same reverence when discussing football greatness regarding a young high school quarterback from Jeannette, PA. That’s a tremendous amount of pressure to live up to when you’re eighteen years old, yet Terrelle Pryor has done just that. Now at the ripe old age of twenty, the only ... Read More

It doesn't seem possible that the man who broke a 34 year drought in Columbus by delivering a national championship in his second season could possibly lose his luster. Jim Tressel is experiencing just that as he prepares for his 9th season at the helm of the Ohio State University football program.
Prior to coming to Ohio State, Tressel spent 15 seasons as head coach at Youngstown State University. The Penguins won four national championships and appeared in six total ... Read More

Breaking down the best 20 Ohio State players on the roster right now as the Buckeyes prepare to report for preseason camp on Sunday.
No. 18: Junior running back Brandon Saine
Another guy who would be higher on this list based only on potential.
In two seasons, he has 86 carries for 332 yards and 15 catches for 197 yards.
But here's something I always come back to with Saine. When the Buckeyes were back in the national title game ... Read More

Who are the best 20 players on Ohio State's roster right now?
This is a venture with no right answers, but I think it's an interesting way to evaluate just how the 2009 Buckeyes are going to come together.
A year ago, this was a much easier list to make. Starting with Beanie Wells, Malcolm Jenkins and James Laurinaitis and running through veterans like Marcus Freeman, Brian Robiskie, Brian Hartline, Donald Washington, Alex Boone, etc., you had a ... Read More
