COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Chimdi Chekwa has a big decision coming up, and it’s not what to get with that gift card to an electronics store.
The cornerback is among 10 Ohio State juniors who have filed paperwork with the NFL Collegiate Advisory Committee online pharmacy no prescription needed to find out their status for next spring’s draft. The information is designed to help underclassmen determine if they should stick around for their senior season in college or if there is a market for their skills in the pros.
“I can’t say I’m already assured I’m coming back,” Chekwa said earlier this week as the Buckeyes prepare for their game against Oregon in the Rose Bowl. “I think I’m leaning toward coming back right now, but that’s still a decision I have to make with my parents and people around me and my coaches.”
Over the past few years, Ohio State has had between eight and 16 juniors who have requested the input of NFL scouts. The players typically receive a rough estimate of where they might go in the draft, then they sit down with parents, family members, friends and coaches to weigh the pros and cons. Some make the jump, others are content to come back for their final season of college ball.
“The decision, it starts now,” said Chekwa, who is sixth among the Buckeyes in tackles. “Kind of looking into things, weighing your options, but ultimately it’ll be after the bowl game.”
A total of 10 Ohio State juniors have given up their last year of eligibility in the past four drafts, with 28 heading to the NFL after three years since Alonzo Spellman became the first to do so in 1992.
Coach Jim Tressel did not disclose the names of the juniors, but he did say they are starters.
