Jon Sanderson has a history with the Big Ten Conference.
So when the former Ohio State University men’s basketball player got the chance to return to the league as a strength and conditioning coach, he didn’t waste any time.
Sanderson accepted that post Friday at Michigan, where he will work with the Wolverines’ basketball programs and Olympic sports. He replaces Mike Curtis, who left the job after one year to return to his alma mater, Virginia.
Sanderson spent the last three years working as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Clemson, working with the Tigers’ basketball programs as well as working as the director of the school’s weight room.
“I cannot tell you how excited I am to accept this position and be a part of the Michigan athletic family,” Sanderson said in a statement released by the school Friday. “As a former Big Ten athlete, I understand the demands of our student-athletes and will coach them at the highest level with passion and integrity. I look forward to contributing in every aspect of the Michigan athletic strength and conditioning program.”
Sanderson, an Ohio native, played one season at Ohio State, starting on the Buckeyes’ 1999 Final Four team.
He then spent two Propecia Online years playing at Ohio University. Prior to working at Clemson, Sanderson served as the head strength and conditioning coach at Marshall from 2003-06, also working as the school’s sports nutrition coordinator.
Both of Michigan’s basketball coaches were excited about Sanderson working with their players.
“We were able to establish, for our players, a great foundation of our strength and conditioning over the last two years,” men’s coach John Beilein said in a statement Friday.
“We love Jon’s innovative thinking regarding basketball specific strength training. We are confident he will step right in and have an immediate positive impact on our players’ development.”
Michigan women’s coach Kevin Borseth agreed.
“(Sanderson) has got a genuine interest in our sport and works well with female athletes,” Borseth said in a statement issued Friday. “We’re excited for him to work with our players and for our players to work with him.”
