From: BigTenNetwork.com — COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 19 Ohio State Buckeyes were carried to a 9-6 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats (36-12) by a strong performance from Sam Marder on Friday.

Marder went 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in two Buckeyes (25-22) runners. Marder homered in the third inning scoring Alicia Herron.

This year Marder has 43 hits in 120 at bats. She has driven in 42 runners and scored 39 runs.

The Buckeyes scored the majority of their runs during a six-run third inning. In addition to Marder’s home run, junior Jessica Smith gave up one run on a home run by senior online drugs Courtney Pruner. Later that inning, two runs came in when Rebecca Schultz doubled and a run came in when Brittany Goodchild singled.

The Buckeyes have been on a roll lately. They have won five games in row. The Buckeyes last lost on April 28 against Michigan.

Reliever Megan Miller got the victory in relief for Ohio State. The senior pitcher pitched four innings and allowed five runs.

The game was a team effort for the Buckeyes with every starter putting up at least one hit.

Smith took the loss for Northwestern. She went 2 2/3 innings, gave up no walks, struck out one, and allowed six runs.

Ohio State’s Pruner and Schultz combined for two hits and four runs batted in.

The victory helps Ohio State which came into the day 1 1/2 games behind Michigan in the standings. The Buckeyes improved to 15-2 in conference play this season.
