By: LARRY PHILLIPS (CentralOhio.com) — It’s been a dozen years since Ohio State has fielded a team as dynamic as the one that will prowl the Shoe this fall.

Talent flows from every corner, led by Terrelle Pryor at quarterback. No one will paint a picture of Pryor throwing — ever. Yet no one can deny the potential explosiveness he brings to every snap (25 touchdowns in 2009), or his promising Rose Bowl MVP performance.

Senior Ross Homan, with 108 tackles and five interceptions in 2009, figures to be the most physical Buckeye linebacker since Andy Katzenmoyer.

Defensive tackle Cameron Heyward likely will, barring injury, become a consensus All-American.

Junior Devier Posey should crack 1,000 receiving yards this year.

Only a medic or Jim Tressel’s limited opportunities can stunt senior running back Brandon Saine.

Kicker Devin Barclay already has hit a Big Ten title-clinching field goal.

Ohio State always fills in the cracks elsewhere. This year fans will quickly become acquainted with the Boren brothers, John Simon, Chimde Chekwa and Jermale Hines. There’s a nickname in there somewhere.

Top nonconference foe Miami comes to Columbus, along with Penn State and Michigan. The Buckeyes will be tested twice — at Iowa and under the lights at Wisconsin. Tressel’s team was better than both schools in 2009, and unless a turnover-fest ensues, OSU should cruise.

A solid preseason No. 2, the last time Ohio State had so few flaws was in 1998. However, that team didn’t run the table. A five-turnover afternoon fueled a stunning 28-24 home loss to Michigan State.

It will take another colossal collapse to derail this train. Unfortunately, that scenario is a common occurrence for the most highly touted Buckeye teams. That dynamic will ride shotgun with this Ohio State football season — beating back the unthinkable…..
