From: MansfieldNewsJournal.com — ASHLAND — Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel will receive the Ashland University Gridiron Club 2010 Sportsman of the Year Award and be the featured speaker at a dinner on Wednesday at AU’s John C. Myers Convocation Center.
This is the second consecutive year the Gridiron Club has had this fundraiser. Illinois football coach Ron Zook, a Loudonville native, was last year’s honoree.
Proceeds from the dinner will be used to support the football program and athletic facilities on campus.
The evening will begin with a reception for Tressel and a silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner and program from 7:15 to 9 p.m. in Myers Convocation Center.
Tickets are $75 each and a reserved table of 10 is available for $695. There is also an opportunity for people to sponsor an AU football player to attend the dinner at a cost of $35 each.
Tressel has been head coach at Ohio State since 2001. His record with the Buckeyes is 83-19. He has guided the Buckeyes to eight bowl appearances, including five Bowl Championship Series games, six 10-win seasons, five straight Big Ten championships, six consecutive wins over archrival Michigan and a 2002 national championship.
Prior to Ohio State, Tressel was the head coach for 15 seasons at Youngstown State, guiding the Penguins to five Division I-AA national championships. He was also the director of athletics at YSU.
To order tickets for Wednesday’s dinner, call the AU athletic department at 419-289-5441.
