By: John Cupps — COLUMBUS, OH - This week Andy Staples of Sports Illustrated came out with his preseason Top 25 football rankings and Ohio State took the No. 3 spot. Andy places Alabama in the No. 1 slot while Boise State came in just above the Buckeyes. Texas and Iowa round out the top five.

Now that the Buckeyes have cast the BCS bowl gorilla from their backs, it’s time to work on Ohio State’s personal King Kong — the BCS title game. The Buckeyes have the talent. They have experience at key positions. Their only problem? The 2010 Big Ten will be deeper than it’s been in years.

The Buckeyes are expected to a big powerhouse this season with at least one sports writer placing OSU in the National Championship game against Alabama.

Tony Barnhart of AJC.com tosses out a way early prediction pitting the Buckeyes against the Crimson Tide in the big game, but falls just short of naming the winner. He writes of Ohio State:

In its 26-17 win over Oregon in the Rose Bowl, the Buckeyes showed us what is possible when QB Terrelle Pryor plays well (23 of 37, 266 yards). But the Buckeyes will run the table because of defense. DE Cameron Heyward (from Atlanta) will have an All-America season. Road games at Wisconsin (Oct. 16) and Iowa (Nov. 20) are the key. A Sept. 11 visit from Miami is also intriguing.
