By: Zac Jackson (FoxSportsOhio.com) — COLUMBUS, Ohio – We’ve known since December that Ohio State was going to need a new quarterback for the start of the 2011 season.
Perhaps you’ve heard that things have changed a bit in and around one of the nation’s winningest programs since then. And now, a little more than two months out from the start of the ’11 season, the Buckeyes not only need a quarterback for the whole year, but they officially have a race to find Their Guy.
New coach Luke Fickell said earlier this week that the job “is completely wide open” when training camp opens in early August. He happened to say that the same day senior Joe Bauserman, one of the four candidates for the job, was one of a handful of Buckeyes made available to the media.
Most of the rest of the players talked about the past – the tumultuous spring, the exits of Jim Tressel and Terrelle Pryor, the adversity bringing the team closer together. But Bauserman talked mostly about the future, his final year of college football and a chance that he probably didn’t think was coming……
