Most brackets are already busted. Kentucky destroyed a whole lot more, shocking the No. 1 overall seeded Ohio State Buckeyes 62-60 Friday night, to advance to the Elite Eight.
For the second time in the tournament, freshman Wildcats guard Brandon Knight shook off a terrible shooting performance (2-9 until that point) to hit a game-winning shot.
The game was a see-saw affair — the teams were even at the half — and went right down to the wire.
Ohio State’s Jon Diebler hit a three from another area code to tie matters, before Knight’s heroics.
Knight and fellow star frosh Terrence Jones combined for just 6-for-20 shooting, but Buckeyes star guard William Buford — a 47% shooter for the season — had a horrible 2-for-16 night.
Jones and Ohio State standout Jared Sullinger battled foul trouble all night, but Sullinger still notched 21 points and 16 rebounds.
Kentucky’s win sets up the best matchup of the tournament so far, a date with North Carolina with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
This is the first time since 2000 that only one No. 1 seed — Kansas, reached the Elite Eight.
