By: MATT MARKEY (ToledoBlade.com) — ANN ARBOR – The Ohio State Buckeyes feasted on five Michigan turnovers and beat their rivals for a sixth straight time here Saturday afternoon.
No. 9 Ohio State pounded out a 21-10 win over the Wolverines by relying on strong defense and a power running game that accounted for 251 yards. The victory give Rose Bowl bound Ohio State (10-2, 7-1) a fifth straight Big Ten title, and the 2009 crown outright.
The Buckeyes’ defense got the game’s first score as Cameron Heyward poured in on Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier as he attempted to pass from his own end zone. Heyward recovered Forcier’s fumble to give the Buckeyes a 7-0 lead just over four minutes into the game.
Michigan (5-7, 1-7) made it 7-3 with a 46-yard field goal by Jason Olesnavage midway through the second quarter, but the Buckeyes drove back down the field to take a 14-3 lead before halftime on a 29-yard touchdown run by Brandon Saine. The Wolverines closed the gap to 14-10 with an 18-yard scoring pass from Forcier to Vincent Smith with 10 minutes left in the third quarter.
Ohio State extended the lead to two scores with a 12-yard screen pass from Terrelle Pryor to Dan Herron for a third-quarter touchdown. The Buckeyes used three fourth-quarter interceptions to thwart Michigan’s scoring attempts.
