M&T Bank Stadium will host a clash between Ohio State University, an annual college football powerhouse, and the Naval Academy on Labor Day weekend 2014.

The game, a home contest for the Midshipmen and season opener Generic pills for both teams, is the latest move by the Baltimore Ravens to bring high-profile sporting events to the 71,000-seat stadium. Ohio State fans tend to travel in packs — with as many as 30,000 heading to road games, Ravens executives say.

“Ohio State is quintessential college football,” said Mark Burdett, vice president of corporate sales and development for the Ravens. “We see this as an interesting and very exciting opportunity.”

With the game being played over a holiday weekend, it will also give visitors more time to stay and spend money in Greater Baltimore.

Chet Gladchuk, Navy’s athletic director, said the Annapolis academy has never played a game at M&T Bank Stadium without it being a sellout.

The team has played a handful of games at the stadium versus Army, Notre Dame and Maryland. A home game versus Ohio State was ideal for a larger venue because Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium holds 37,000 people, Gladchuk said.

“We don’t even think about going up the street [to Baltimore] if we can’t sell it out,” Gladchuk said, noting Baltimore will host the Navy-Army rivalry in December 2014. “And there’s no question in my mind this won’t be different.”

With an NFL stadium as the backdrop and Ohio State and Navy squaring off, the game should receive consideration for a national television slot, Burdett said.

Both Burdett and Gladchuk declined to disclose financial terms of the agreement. Gladchuk said FedEx Field in Landover, home of the Washington Redskins, was another contender for the game.

Navy will also play the University of Maryland on Labor Day 2010 at M&T Bank Stadium. That game, the kickoff of the 2010 season for both teams, will be broadcast nationally on ABC or ESPN.
