Ohio State proved it can win against a deliberate opponent in its last game. Cleveland State feels confident its pressing style can provide a breakthrough victory after a near-upset of a top 10 team over the weekend.
The 17th-ranked Buckeyes, who continue to play without injured star Evan Turner, take on the Vikings at Value City Arena on Tuesday night.
Ohio State (9-2) shot 60 percent from the field as it grinded out a 60-44 win over Delaware State on Saturday. The Buckeyes were occasionally flustered by the Hornets and their methodical offensive sets, and the absence of Turner did not help.
The junior forward, the team leader with 18.5 points, 11.4 rebounds and 6.0 assists, continues to recover after suffering broken vertebrae in his back.
“The ultimate goal is getting the win, but I’m an impatient person, and that was difficult for me,” said coach Thad Matta, whose squad averages 82.5 points. “We were pressing and trapping, anything to try and speed the tempo up. I give our guys credit for continuing to play and compete.”
