That didn’t take long.
Three days after Kevin White announced he was leaving Notre Dame for Duke, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith issued a statement Tuesday saying he is not a candidate for the job.
Smith, a Cleveland native, is a former defensive end for the Fighting Irish.
“I have the utmost respect for Notre Dame and great admiration for the university and its athletic department, but I will not be a candidate for the job there,” Smith said. “I am very happy being at The Ohio State University.”
Smith said he was never contacted by Notre Dame.
“I am honored that many consider me to be cheap Levitra a candidate,” he said, “but I have no desire to leave Ohio State.”
OSU near the top early
The preseason rankings for college football magazines are beginning to trickle out, and to the surprise of no one, Ohio State is again near the top.
The Buckeyes are ranked second in the nation by both Athlon and Phil Steele, while Lindy’s has Ohio State third, behind Georgia (first) and USC. Both Athlon and Phil Steele have Florida first.
Of the three, I agree with Lindy’s. At the end of last season, Georgia was arguably the best team in the country, having won seven straight to close the year. The Bulldogs return nearly everyone, including tailback Knowshon Moreno, who joins Beanie Wells to form the All-American first-team backfield on Phil Steele’s preseason list.
All of this just makes the Sept. 13 clash in Los Angeles even juicier. It may not be 1 vs. 2, like the game in Texas was a few years ago, but the winner of the Ohio State-USC game will likely wind up No. 1 the following week.
The Buckeyes open the season Aug. 30 against Youngstown State.
