By: John Cupps (BuckeyeCountry.net) — The Ohio State Buckeyes just may write the final chapter in the Rich Rod story at Michigan.
According to an article published on the Detroit Free Press website (Freep.com), Michigan coach Rich Rodiguez may already have his fate with the Wolverine football program sealed. Beating Ohio State on Saturday, something the Wolverines have not done in five years, and becoming bowl eligible might help the coach retain his job. But according to ESPN’s Michael Wilbon, that may not be enough.
“I had a solo conversation with someone who is affiliated with the current coach at Michigan, and he does not believe for a second that he’ll be back” -Monday on Tony Kornheiser’s radio show, Wilbon pronounced Rodriguez done at Michigan.
Wilson stuck by his statement and his source when Kornheiser said a coach with Rodriguez’s résumé surely should get another year to right the program.
“I was stunned by this conversation, which was Saturday, an hour-and-a-half after that (Wisconsin) game,” Wilbon said. “And he says that he would bet me right now — took his wallet out and threw it down — that this is not going to happen.”
The storm of the century is brewing up north and Rodriguez is right in the middle of it. In his second year at Michigan, Rodriguez only won two games last season including 42-7 Buckeye win which was the biggest blowout in the series since 1968. Ohio State will travel to Michigan this Saturday for the final game of the regular season in a Big Ten match-up. Coach Jim Tressel and the Buckeyes have already secured a spot in the Rose Bowl.
