For those of you already putting Urban Meyer in the coaching position at Ohio State, hold on a bit.

Concerning today’s resignation of coach Jim Tressel, Meyer released the following statement:

I am committed to ESPN and will not pursue any coaching opportunities this fall. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the people at ESPN this spring and remain very excited about my role with the network this fall.

Jim Tressel has been a respected friend and colleague for a long time. I wish Jim and his family the very best now and in the future.

Luke Fickell will be the interim head coach at Ohio State this season as AD Gene Smith announced this morning. The Buckeyes will not be looking for a new coach, if any, until after this season and Meyer could certainly change his mind before then.
