Ohio State’s Jim Tressel did not don his traditional sweater vest during his team’s spring football game, choosing camouflage pants and a matching hat — to honor Ohio National Guard members and their families who were in attendance — to go with a scarlet windbreaker.

But there was no hiding, or blending into the surroundings, for the embattled Buckeyes coach.

The earliest Tressel will return to the sidelines at Ohio Stadium for a game will be on Oct. 29 against the University of Wisconsin, a game that should go a long way in shaping the race in the inaugural Leaders Division in the Big Ten Conference.

The Badgers hope to have their quarterback situation solidified by then.

Sophomore quarterback Jon Budmayr is the prohibitive favorite to replace departed senior Scott Tolzien, but UW’s spring game did little to ease the anxiety Badgers fans will feel about the position before the season starts.

Budmayr was ineffective and did not generate a score in 10 series. But he said it was important not to put too much emphasis on a single performance…..
