Let’s look ahead to next week quickly.

Purdue will visit Ohio State at 3:30, maybe with its own quarterback controversy. Fifth-year senior Curtis Painter, who has his own Heisman website, was yanked against Penn State today in favor of backup Joey Elliott after completing 13 of 22 passes for 112 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

Painter already has a less-than-impressive effort against the Buckeyes under his belt. Last year in a primetime game at Purdue, Painter was 31 of 60 for 268 yards and one touchdown in a 23-7 loss, with eight of the completions, 76 of the yards and the touchdown coming on the final drive against Ohio State’s backup defense.

It’ll be interesting to see how Joe Tiller handles this. Elliott isn’t exactly Terrelle Pryor - he’s a junior who was the 18th-ranked pro-style quarterback according to Rivals.com in the Class of 2005, with 22 college completions to his name. And Painter had a better resume than Todd Boeckman - he’s third all-time in Big Ten history, not just Purdue history, in completions and fifth in passing yards.

But Tiller, in his final season, can do whatever he wants before he heads to his fishing cabin. With Painter throwing for just five touchdowns against five interceptions in a 2-3 start, would that include changing quarterbacks for the OSU game?
