By Adam Rittenberg (ESPN.com) — The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the NFL draft came and went Saturday, and things remained quiet in Columbus.
Despite assumptions from yours truly and many others in the media that some of Ohio State’s five suspended juniors would go pro, no official announcements have been made. A team spokeswoman told me Monday that to her knowledge, no Ohio State underclassmen — suspended or otherwise — have declared for the draft.
We will know for sure after today, the deadline for underclassmen to withdraw their names from the draft. Although players typically make formal announcements when they enter the draft, it’s not a requirement.
If the five players — quarterback Terrelle Pryor, running back Dan Herron receiver DeVier Posey, offensive tackle Mike Adams and defensive lineman Solomon Thomas — return to Ohio State, they will sit out the first five games this fall, pending appeal. And according to The Columbus Dispatch, it’s not looking good for the suspensions to be reduced.
A source told me Friday that one of the suspended players still was considering the draft, but it appears as though all five kept their word to coach Jim Tressel and will return for the 2011 season…..
