BY CHAD CONANT (News Journal) — There’s no arguing that Ohio State’s men’s basketball program has become one of the nation’s best.
By all accounts, the school has a sparkling arena that is among the best in the Midwest. It boasts an incredibly watchable team with a marquee player in freshman Jared Sullinger.
Now, it’s time to stop ripping off fans.
If you attend games before the Jan. 9 Big Ten home opener with Minnesota, Ohio State is stealing your money with a schedule rated 189th in Division I.
This season, the Buckeyes will play 13 times before their New Year’s Eve conference opener at Indiana. There are five games with teams from the Carolinas. Only one — South Carolina — belongs anywhere near a schedule Ohio State prints. The only two games with competitive programs were played in Florida.
Look, I understand paycheck games. Everyone plays them. But Ohio State, which does a good job of keeping football money in Ohio, is a joke in the winter. This season, the Miami RedHawks came to Columbus and got their check and 66-45 beating.
Miami is the only school from Ohio on the Buckeyes’ schedule.
Aside from scheduling Cincinnati every year (How do they not do that already?) there are plenty of other fixes to the laugh track Ohio State plays. It would be easy to……
