By Steve Wieberg (USAToday.com) — Ohio State will answer NCAA charges of rules violations by former football coach Jim Tressel and others by Friday, three days later than originally specified, the school said Tuesday.

The NCAA granted the extension because of the proximity to the Fourth of July holiday. Ohio State plans to publicly release its response on July 11, spokesman Dan Wallenberg said.

The Buckeyes still appear headed toward an Aug. 12 hearing before the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions in Indianapolis.
