Ohio State’s Jon Diebler was angry at himself after Sunday’s win at Illinois. He’d gone to the bench in the final minutes of the game grimacing slightly and holding his right wrist. While taking a charge against the Illini, he’d attempted to break his fall with his right hand, his shooting hand, what he called a stupid mistake. And now it hurt.

“I’ll be all right,” Diebler said Sunday. “I’ve got tough bones. I drink a lot of milk.”

Coach Thad Matta said the same just after the game, saying Diebler was icing it and should be fine

Matta said a little more this morning on the Big Ten coaches conference call, saying Diebler slept in a protective splint and had X-rays both Sunday and this morning. Matta said both were negative, no bones were broken and “everything is full-go.”

The idea is to keep the wrist immobile for now, but Matta said he hoped Diebler would get more treatment on the wrist and more movement in it today.

The junior leads the team in minutes and scored a game-high 18 points in Sunday’s win over the Illini, tying his season-best with six 3-pointers. With Purdue coming to Columbus on Wednesday and a trip to Michigan State on Sunday for the first-place Buckeyes, who are tied with the Spartans, this is not a time for a shooter to be hurting his shooting wrist.
