What’s brewing today with the 2008 Ohio State Buckeyes …
Buckeyes buzz
With a win on Saturday, Ohio State can become only the fifth major college program with 800 wins. The Buckeyes come into their tilt with Ohio with a record of 799-304-55 in their 119 seasons.
The others? Michigan with 869, Notre Dame 824, Texas 821 and Nebraska with 818. Penn State has 791, Alabama 788, Oklahoma 771 and USC 754.
“We’re pretty proud of the fact there’s only four teams that have done that and we have a chance to become the fifth,” coach Jim Tressel said Thursday afternoon. “That’s got to be something that you remind yourself that lots of things happened long before any of us were here.”
Injury report
In addition to confirming that Chris “Beanie” Wells would not play on Saturday, Tressel also said that SS Kurt Coleman (ankle) and CB Andre Amos (knee) would be available.
CB Donald Washington will sit out his second game of the year for an undisclosed violation of team rules. LB Brian Rolle will also miss the game because of a concussion.
Quotable
Tressel was asked who he voted No. 1 this week in the coaches’ poll.
“The same team as I did last week,” he said.
Asked who that was, in mock outrage he added, “I’m not allowed to tell that.”
But what were their team colors?
“Pretty,” he said.
