By BJ Corbitt (ForsythNews.com) — The nation’s top recruit at long snapper remains committed to play football at Ohio State following the abrupt departure of embattled head coach Jim Tressel this week.

Pinecrest Academy’s Bryce Haynes signed a full scholarship to play long snapper for the Buckeyes back on National Signing Day in February, the culmination of a high-profile recruiting chase that involved Notre Dame, Arkansas, North Carolina and Harvard, among others.

Tressel made a strong personal push to get Haynes to commit to Columbus, including a personal visit to the family’s home in the weeks before Signing Day. Haynes recalled the coach and some of his staffers spending around six hours with his family, sharing dinner and talking football.

The coach also took time to come see the recruit while he was at a soccer camp in Columbus with his sister.

“I don’t think there’s a better person on the face of this planet. I really do think Coach Tressel’s a great guy, and it’s kind of unfortunate that he’s not going to be there while I’m playing,” Haynes said.
