That doesn’t mean something great can’t come in the meantime.
Woodmore graduate Ben St. John recently received a letter from Ohio State’s football program illustrating this. St. John, an offensive lineman, anticipated he might not be called to work out with the Buckeyes until after the first game against Marshall but instead received the letter this month inviting him to report to camp Aug. 4.
“I’m just excited to get in there and get into the program and get moving on it,” St. John said. “To be able to learn the system from Day 1 at camp and not have to wait like we originally thought might happen … I’ll be there for everything and not coming in later. I’m pretty excited about that.”
The letter included medical forms and a sizing chart for equipment to be returned to the school. It also indicated more information would follow near the end of the month.
“We’re still playing it by ear,” St. John said of moving yet a step closer to becoming Buckeye Ben. “I still don’t know everything that will happen when I get there. I talked to (offensive coordinator and offensive line) coach (Jim) Bollman and he said, ‘Congratulations, you’re one of the 105 guys and we’re excited.’ ”
