The Ohio State Buckeye’s have found a rhythm just in time for NCAA’s “March Madness”. The Lady Buckeyes were ranked as high as 6 in the beginning weeks of the season AP Top 25. Unfortunately, the Lady Buckeyes have not been able to sustain their ranking in the AP Top 25 or the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

The Buckeye’s played Penn State for a second time this season last night. Interestingly, Penn State initially wasn’t ranked in the AP or Coaches Polls. Penn State entered the rankings in Week 13 at 23 and last week dropped to 25.

Earlier in the season, the Buckeye’s lost to Penn State. However, after viewing the Buckeyes rematch against Penn State last night, the Buckeyes appeared to take advantage of their opponent’s lack of defense and irresponsible play. By the third quarter, Penn State looked fatigued and completed double digit turnovers. Although, Penn State tried to make a comeback at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter, they could not hold off the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes are a talented group of women and seem very determined even though they have not had the season many critics and fans expected this year. Jantel Lavender, a senior and leader on the court, became Ohio State women’s basketball all-time leading scorer. Although she is averaging 22 points per game, the Buckeyes have not been able to sustain the strong defense and intensity.

The sophomore, Tayler Hill, native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, maturation is highly apparent on the court. Last night, Hill scored on 19 points and ignited her team by setting a tone playing consistent defense. She seems determined to win and play good basketball to support her team advancing to the next level.

Last year Ohio State won the Big Ten Championship to automatically advance to the NCAA tournament. This year is a different story and the season has been a bumpy road. Selection Monday is not too off and if the Buckeyes continue to win their remaining games, it is a good chance they will make it to the big show down.
