Doubtless to the regret of Ohio State fans, the University of Michigan officially put football coach Rich Rodriguez out of his misery Wednesday, firing him after three tumultuous seasons. There seemed to be no truth to the rumor that some Buckeye fans held a candlelight vigil in protest.

Low points of the Rodriguez era at Michigan:

• Going 0-3 against OSU; outscored 100-24

• School-record for losses in a season (9, 2008)

• Consecutive losing seasons for first time since 1962-63

• 42-7 loss to Ohio State in 2008, the worst loss to Ohio State since 1968 (50-14)

• School record for yards allowed in each of last two years

• Allowed most points in school history (35.2 PPG in 2010)

• Allowed most points ever in bowl game (52)
