ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Kevin Manson was nearly unhittable against fifth-seeded Ohio State, tossing a four-hit complete game, and second baseman Joe Bonadonna hit the game-winning home run, the first of his career, to lift fourth-seeded Illinois to a 3-2 win in the opening game of the 2008 Big Ten Tournament at the Wilpon Baseball Complex. Both runs OSU scored were unearned as Manson struck out four and faced just four batters more than the minimum in the Illini's ... Read More

The first 10 years of college football's BCS era were defined by great plays and great players.
Texas quarterback Vince Young's burst into the end zone against USC. Boise State's hook-and-lateral and Statue of Liberty. Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett's stripping the football from Miami's Sean Taylor.
But players come and go annually.
The men who stand on college football's sidelines are the ones who usually stand the test of time (unless your school hired Bobby ... Read More

Looking to erase the stigma of two national title game failures is first and foremost on the minds of the Buckeyes this season. Even with a combined record of 33-5 the past three years, Ohio State has faced national ridicule.
Coming off of an 11-2 season and a surprising BCS title game appearance - no OSU fan in their right mind expected a young and inexperienced squad to get that far, so thanks to every other program ... Read More

ITHACA — Rarely, in a postseason meeting of two teams deemed to be relatively even in strength and skill, does the combination of near-flawless execution and near-self-destruction clash as prominently as it did on Saturday.
Left nursing wounds both mentally and physically was Cornell, the bearers of a 15-7 whipping by Ohio State in front of 3,159 stunned fans — and a nationally televised audience — at somber Schoellkopf Field in an NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament first-round ... Read More

There are times you are convinced some people are viewing a world so different from the one you see that they must inhabit some alternate universe.
One of those times came this week.
E. Gordon Gee, the president of Ohio State University, told the Columbus Dispatch why he is against the plus-one playoff proposal made by Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive.

Columbus- Ohio State could be prepared to switch from the quarter system to a semester-based academic calendar in the next few years, and the change could save a few basketball scholarships.
Dr. E. Gordon Gee has been in favor of the change since his first tenure at Ohio State and reiterated the stance when he returned last fall. The athletic department would seem to favor that move, aware that the current quarter setup puts Ohio ... Read More

John Cooper was recently accepted into the College Football Hall of Fame, which is probably likely to raise a few eyebrows from Buckeye fans who feel that his was a period of shame for the Scarlet and Gray. The John Cooper era was marked with great success on the macro scale, but featured what a lot of fans consider an unforgivable 2-10-1 record against Michigan, as well as a disappointing 3-7 record in bowls (3-8 counting the ... COLUMBUS - While Wall Street quaked and trembled earlier this year over the Bear Stearns bailout and Microsoft's proposed shotgun marriage with Yahoo, things were not nearly as tumultuous in and around a different kind of stock market - one where shares in Scarlet and Gray futures can gain and lose value on an almost daily basis.
As Ohio State went through its winter conditioning and workouts, and then held the group practices and scrimmage sessions ... Read More
