Tressel was announced as Akron's vice president of school engagement at a press conference Thursday.
The former Ohio State coach has a long history with Akron. He was a graduate assistant with the Zips and earned a master's degree from the school.

By: AP via ChicagoTribune.com -- COLUMBUS, Ohio— The son of an Ohio auto dealer says his parents have purchased the suburban Columbus home of former Ohio state coach Jim Tressel.
The Columbus Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/ySgu1U) Jeff Layman says his father, Bobby Layman, and mother bought the Upper Arlington home. He tells the newspaper Tuesday that, "the deal is closed" and his parents plan to move in after the Tressels move out.

Tressel, who was hired to the team's staff last season, held a second interview with Colts owner Jim Irsay for the top job Friday following Jim Caldwell's firing earlier in the week, WBNS reported.
