By: Dan Hope via TheLantern.com -- The story of NCAA rule violations happening within Ohio State athletics has not come to an end. Forty-six secondary violations have been self-reported to the NCAA by the OSU athletic department since May 30, 2011, the day that former football coach Jim Tressel was forced to resign. However, the OSU Athletic Compliance Office has done a much more effective job in that time frame of monitoring violations by their athletic teams. The violations vary in nature from current ... By Pat Brennan via TheLantern.com -- Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith and football coach Urban Meyer both committed NCAA violations in the last year, and they were not alone. Violations by Smith and Meyer accounted for two of 46 violations that the athletic department self-reported to the NCAA since May 30, 2011. OSU released documents last week detailing the violations that have occurred since the day former Buckeyes football coach Jim Tressel was forced to resign from his job. From: thebestdamnpoll.com --  Many moons ago, when I got out of college (with a degree (actually two), to the assumed surprise of most of my family I'd imagine), I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. That's probably not the best time or idea to have that revelation, but it is what it is. I knew I liked to write, and I knew I liked to coach basketball, since the NBA wasn't in the market for slow white ... Read More

The Terrelle Pryor era in Ohio State: Was it all worth it?

Categories: BUCKEYE COUNTRY, FANS, FOOTBALL

From WaitingForNextYear.com -- Before he’d ever taken a snap as a college quarterback, Terrelle Pryor received a standing ovation on a brilliantly sunny day against Youngstown State in Ohio State’s cakewalk of an opener in 2008. Months before that, Sports Illustrated called his college decision “the most anticipated signing day announcement in history.” Talk about hype. A look at just the numbers suggests he lived up to the most of it. Key word: most. From 2008-20010, Pryor helped guide the Buckeyes to a share of....... READ ... Read More

After getting a five-year show-cause penalty, Tressel latched on with the Indianapolis Colts as an extra set of eyes in the organization. After dabbling in the NFL a bit, Tressel has returned to the college ranks. Not on the sidelines though. Instead, Tressel has ... Read More

OSU’s Meyer against changing postseason

Categories: BUCKEYE COUNTRY, FOOTBALL

By Doug Harris via springfieldnewssun.com -- A movement is afoot to alter the way college football crowns its national champion, but Ohio State coach Urban Meyer would prefer to stay with the status quo. He won two crowns at Florida, beating OSU in 2006 and Oklahoma in 2008. But the BCS championship era may be over. Conference commissioners and other officials are discussing proposals to implement a four-team playoff perhaps as soon as 2014. “If the purpose is to get a true national champion, ... Read More

Jim Tressel: DeVier Posey’s Character Should Not Be Questioned

Categories: FOOTBALL

By TERRANCE HARRIS via cbslocal.com -- HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – Almost as soon as the Texans made Ohio State receiver DeVier Posey the fifth pick of the third round during last Friday night’s NFL Draft the questions came. What was the organization thinking taking a misfit who missed nearly his entire senior season due to misconduct? After years of being unwilling to take a chance in the draft on any players with questionable backgrounds, general manager Rick Smith and head coach Gary Kubiak decided to ... Read More

Ohio State plans speedy recovery

Categories: BUCKEYE COUNTRY, FOOTBALL

By Adam Rittenberg via ESPN.com -- COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Recent history shows no college football program is immune from an extended slump. The mighty have fallen in unprecedented numbers, and last summer, Ohio State appeared doomed to be the next to serve its sentence in the shadows. The previously bulletproof Buckeyes stared down the barrel of NCAA investigators, who were dissecting a series of violations committed by players and, the most egregious, a cover-up committed by former coach Jim Tressel. The man some ... Read More
