Anything worth having is worth waiting for.
That old maxim applies to both Carlos Hyde’s yearlong wait to take the field with his Ohio State football teammates and also to the wait Buckeye fans have endured to see him suit up.
Because when he does suit up, Carlos Hyde is impressive indeed.
At an imposing 6-feet-1-inch and 230 pounds, Hyde is the type of big, physical back that gives opposing defensive coordinators fits, as well as any defensive backs unlucky ... Read More

The Buckeyes added 19 players in the 2010 recruiting class, but none might excite the fans as much as Roderick Smith.
The Big Ten is a conference that has traditionally been centered around powerful running games. With Smith, Ohio State should continue that trend.
The 6-foot-3-inch, 220 pound running back from Fort Wayne, Ind. has many fans dreaming of another Chris “Beanie” Wells.
Wells led the Buckeyes to two Big Ten Championships in his time as a starter at OSU, and ... Read More

The Ohio State coaching staff extended a flurry of scholarship offers late last week. Bucknuts.com had the news first that the OSU staff had offered offensive lineman Chris Carter Jr. (Cleveland, Ohio/John F. Kennedy), defensive end/offensive lineman Chase Farris (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) and tight end Nick Vannett (Westerville, Ohio/Central).
All three are certainly strong candidates to become Buckeyes, but the first to fall Ohio State's way may be Farris.
The 6-foot-6 and 265-pound Farris was a starter at defensive tackle his ... Read More

By: Todd Porter (CantonRep.com) -- As Jim Tressel discussed his 2010 recruiting class Wednesday, it wasn’t a secret he was still waiting on one more player.
Eighteen top high school seniors were in hand, but Tressel said 19 would be perfect. As Tressel spoke, though, the odds got slimmer the nation’s top-rated offensive lineman and maybe the top overall recruit would choose Ohio State.
Then, Seantrel Henderson, a 6-foot-8, 305-pound brickhouse of a left tackle from Cretin-Derham in St. Paul, Minn., chose Southern Cal ... Read More

Ohio State assistant coach Taver Johnson compared St. Ignatius linebacker Scott McVey to OSU linebacker Ross Homan when describing him on Wednesday when the Buckeyes announced their recruiting class. Asked if McVey, a 6-footer, might be a little undersized at linebacker, Johnson mentioned another current Buckeye starter at linebacker.
"I think he'll be fine," Johnson said. "You have Brian Rolle, he's 5-11. We'll take those guys who are explosive and mean and will take your head off."
Johnson ... Read More

By: Adam Rittenberg (ESPN.com) -- National signing day was largely forgettable for the Big Ten, and things ended on a down note as coveted offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson picked USC over Ohio State, Minnesota and several others.
Henderson and linebacker Jordan Hicks were considered the top two players from the Big Ten region this year, and neither of them will be suiting up for a Big Ten team in 2010. Ohio State went 0-for-2 on coveted offensive line prospects on Wednesday, as Matt ... Read More

Columbus Marion-Franklin senior Verlon Reed was one of the later pledges to what is currently an 18-player Ohio State recruiting class for 2010. His official offer from the Buckeyes came after his senior season, and he gave his oral commitment on Dec. 16 before signing his National Letter of Intent today.
Reed was primarily holding offers from MAC schools before his senior season, but Michigan State and Michigan both offered him as a quarterback after the Buckeyes ... Read More

By: Adam Rittenberg (ESPN.com) -- Ohio State entered national signing day hoping to land two coveted offensive linemen, Seantrel Henderson and Matt James.
It appeared likely the Buckeyes would land at least one, if not both of the highly rated prep prospects.
But now it's fair to ask the question: Could Ohio State end up going 0-for-2?
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Mike Dyer, James has committed to Notre Dame instead of Ohio State and will make it official at a noon ET announcement. Ohio ... Read More

ENTERVILLE — After leaving the Miami Valley without an Ohio State football recruit this year for the first time since 1998, the Buckeyes are increasing their desire for the area Class of 2011.
Michael Bennett, a 6-foot-3, 275-pound Centerville High School junior offensive lineman, received a scholarship offer from OSU over the weekend. He is the second area player — after Wayne quarterback Braxton Miller — to whom the Buckeyes have extended a scholarship offer.
Bennett was a first-team All-Greater ... Read More
